The time of year for Damenti’s annual ice event is now here. This year they present: “DAMENTI’S FROZEN ROMAN ICE BAR”.
“Damenti’s Frozen Roman Ice Bar” celebrated its Grand Opening on Friday and will remain open until March. The ice bar is open during restaurant hours; Tuesday - Saturday 5-10pm, Sunday 4-9pm, closed Monday. Damenti’s will be donating 25% of all ice bar sales to Helping Hands. Kevin McDonald, owner of Damenti’s Restaurant said: “Like all non-profits, the Helping Hands Society is struggling right now and we hope that this type of support can help them. They offer a great service to our community and we’re honored to be apart of their effort in keeping their doors open.” Damenti’s is also offering local businesses to get involved by sponsoring a window in the Roman Ice Bar, which will be tax deductible. A prominent section on a window sculpture that depicts a scene from Rome will also have the business’s name carved into it showing their support for this exciting local attraction and also the Helping Hands Society.
McDonald and his wife, Helen, have been the proprietors of Damenti’s Restaurant in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania for 35 years. Kevin’s passion in life is ice carving. Helen describes her husband as a slice of P.T. Barnum, a pinch of Mel Brooks, and a touch of Peter Pan. She also adds that he always has a vision. McDonald said: “I would like to extend Damenti’s hospitality and I anticipate my ice artist friends’ return. The camaraderie is what it’s all about. It is somewhat of a class reunion. We all have a special Dinner at Damenti’s and it is always a good time.”
Ice Sculptures inspire the childlike qualities of wonder and awe in all of us. The faces of adults express that familiar wide-eyed stare as they view the sparkling, glaring sculptures coming to life. People are anxiously photographing everywhere; as spectators, we are gripped by a unique and wonderful force with these giant sculptures towering to the ceiling.
Our minds and emotions are permanently embedded with the sculptured ice message. They are never forgotten. People write letters and tell their friends all around the country. The experience of seeing these works of art in ice will make you want to come back again and again.
Be sure to stop by Damenti’s to see this work of art and while you’re there, have a drink and support the Helping Hands Society! For more information on having your name carved into the Roman Ice Bar, contact Helping Hands at 570-455-4958.
